Cairo: Sharm El Sheikh Sharm El Sheikh Museum has inaugurated a temporary exhibition that chronicles nearly 14 centuries of Coptic art, highlighting the preservation of religious and cultural traditions in Egypt.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the three-month exhibition, titled 'Stone and Ink,' is being held in the museum's Byzantine Hall. It features a variety of archaeological objects, icons, and manuscripts that showcase different forms of artistic expression. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey from stone carvings to painted icons and finally to manuscripts that have preserved church texts and readings across generations.

Among the notable objects on display is a carved stone scene depicting Joseph's journey to Egypt, as well as a hunting scene that combines animal figures with symbolic and artistic elements. Visitors can also view an icon depicting the Visitation of Elizabeth to the Virgin Mary and an annual lectionary containing church readings and texts, decorated with writing, ornamentation, and various colors.

The exhibition provides an insightful view into the transition from carved images to painted icons and written manuscripts, illustrating the evolution of artistic and religious expression and the preservation of Coptic cultural memory over the centuries. The exhibition will be open to the public for three months at Sharm El Sheikh Museum.
