Egypt and Dagestan Discuss Academic Cooperation and Combat Against Extremism

Cairo: Minister of Awqaf Osama Al Azhari expressed the ministry's appreciation for Dagestan's efforts to combat extremism and its long-standing contribution to Islamic scholarship. He affirmed his intention to coordinate with relevant authorities to develop a joint academic and educational support program for Dagestani students studying at Al-Azhar.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the remarks came during the minister's meeting with a delegation from Dagestan, headed by Dagestani Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and National Policy. Azhari welcomed the visiting delegation at the Mosque of Egypt and greeted its members on the anniversary of the Prophet Mohammad's birthday.

For his part, the head of the delegation conveyed the greetings of the Dagestani Government, expressing appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality. He praised Egypt's status as a country of knowledge and scholars, as well as the role of its religious and academic institutions in promoting a righteous understanding of Islam and combating extremism worldwide.

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen academic cooperation and exchange expertise, particularly in training and religious outreach, as well as cooperation with Azhar to provide support and care for Dagestani students studying there. Azhari stressed that Dagestani students, along with all international students coming to Egypt to study at Al Azhar, receive the ministry's full attention and care.

The meeting also addressed the importance of joint efforts to counter extremist ideology and build generations equipped with a sound understanding of religion and protected against deviant ideas, particularly in light of the risks of terrorism and extremism faced by both Egypt and Dagestan.
