Cairo: The Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR), under the leadership of Khaled Abdel Aziz, has announced its vigilant oversight of recent media content that delves into the private and family lives of citizens and public figures. This development comes amid concerns over media outlets, websites, and online accounts disseminating personal crisis details of individuals, which the SCMR identifies as a breach of ethical and professional media standards.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the SCMR has issued a statement emphasizing that all media and press institutions, as well as digital platforms governed by Law No. 180 of 2018, must cease the circulation and discussion of content related to family disputes or the private lives of individuals. This directive applies universally, without exception, and calls for strict adherence to the media codes and standards set forth by the SCMR.

The statement from SCMR reaffirms that the sanctity of private life is a constitutional right, unaffected by an individual's fame or public status. It highlights that the freedom of expression and press must be balanced with responsibility, noting that the public's right to know should focus on issues of public interest rather than private affairs.

The SCMR has committed to continued monitoring of content across media outlets and social media platforms to detect any infractions of laws or media standards. It has pledged to enact all necessary legal actions swiftly against any violations, to protect societal rights, uphold public interest, and enforce adherence to media laws and guidelines.
