President El Sisi Announces Launch of 5th PCRD Awareness Week

Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi announced on Sunday, 16 Nov 2025, the launch of the fifth edition of the AU Awareness Week on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) under the theme of 'Rebuilding Lives after Conflict Through Reparative Justice'. The fifth edition will start on Monday and runs till November 23.

According to State Information Service Egypt, as the AU Champion for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, President Sisi expressed his pleasure in launching the event, emphasizing the importance of rebuilding lives after conflict through restorative justice. He noted that Africa continues to grapple with complex security and developmental challenges such as internal conflicts, terrorism, transnational crime, and humanitarian crises, in addition to emerging issues like climate change and advanced technologies.

President El-Sisi pointed out that the continent remains heavily impacted by global geopolitical tensions, which exacerbate vulnerabilities and hinder the implementation of the African Union's strategies for stability, development, and prosperity under Agenda 2063. Despite these hurdles, he acknowledged Africa's wealth in resources and human capital, highlighting the progress made in leveraging these assets for peace, security, and development.

He urged for stronger solidarity and comprehensive approaches to address the root causes of Africa's challenges, focusing on post-conflict reconstruction and development, as well as the execution of the AU's updated policy in this area. This includes strengthening institutions, supporting national ownership of solutions, building human capacity, raising awareness of conflict risks, and promoting inclusive development, with an emphasis on justice for conflict victims.

The President also referenced the fifth Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development held in October 2025, underscoring Egypt's vision of integrating peace, security, and development. He praised the efforts of the AU Centre for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development in Cairo for its programs in various African countries aimed at enhancing stability, recovery, capacity-building, and public awareness.

El-Sisi expressed hope that these initiatives would continue to fulfill the aspirations of African peoples for sustainable peace and security. He commended the African Union Commission for its support in reconstruction and peacebuilding across the continent, reaffirming his commitment as AU Champion to collaborate with African leaders, the Commission, regional stakeholders, and international partners to achieve the continent's aspirations and advance the objectives of Agenda 2063.
