Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, on Monday, January 19, 2026, made a phone call to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark to inquire about his health following a recent surgical procedure.

According to State Information Service Egypt, official spokesperson for the Cabinet Mohamed el Homsany stated that during the phone call, Madbouli conveyed his sincere wishes for the pope's speedy recovery. The prime minister emphasized his commitment to ensuring the pontiff's well-being and expressed appreciation for Pope Tawadros II's significant role and standing among Egyptians.

In response, Pope Tawadros II expressed his gratitude for the prime minister's outreach, affirming that the call was a thoughtful gesture, reflecting mutual respect and goodwill.
