Alexandria: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly initiated his visit to Alexandria Governorate at the Governorate's headquarters, where he evaluated the progress of significant projects being executed and ongoing within the city across various sectors.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was attended by several prominent officials, including Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, and General Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said, Governor of Alexandria. The Prime Minister emphasized the government's dedication to advancing Alexandria's economic and tourist appeal while preserving its historical essence.
General Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said provided updates on numerous major projects, highlighting that 63 projects have been completed at a cost of approximately EGP 90.5 billion, with 31 projects currently underway. The transportation sector, a focal point of the discussion, has seen substantial investment, with ongoing road projects spanning about 200 km, including the expansion of the Corniche road. The governor also delved into the Abu Qir Metro project and the 'Raml' tram development, both vital for alleviating traffic congestion in the city.
The governor highlighted Alexandria's shift towards sustainable transportation, noting the introduction of electric buses and plans to convert 200 buses to gas. Additionally, the Alexandria bicycles project aims to promote eco-friendly commuting.
Dr. Madbouly instructed the immediate commencement of procedures to convert buses to gas. He also focused on enhancing cooperation with international donor agencies to implement new projects in health, education, and infrastructure. Investment opportunities in the tourism sector were presented, with plans for new international hotels.
The issue of buildings at risk of collapse was addressed, with the Prime Minister directing the preparation of a housing project to relocate affected residents. Plans for 60,000 new housing units were discussed, with coordination underway to allocate necessary lands.
Preparations for the summer season in Alexandria were also reviewed, including improvements in rescue operations on beaches, the activation of an electronic booking system, and efforts to standardize beach amenities. The cleanliness and beautification of the city were highlighted, alongside waste removal initiatives in collaboration with Nahdet Misr Company.
General Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said presented efforts to enhance oversight on beaches, with a focus on compliance with work procedures and addressing public complaints through dedicated hotlines.
The governor concluded by addressing spatial changes, with a report noting a 99.96% completion rate in this area, and the expansion of one-day markets to provide affordable commodities to citizens.
