Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly inspected the dredging and deepening project of Lake Burullus, now 99% complete, during a tour of development projects in Kafr El Sheikh governorate.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouly emphasized that the state prioritizes preserving natural lakes to enhance fish production, ensure food security, and create jobs. Housing Minister Randa El Manshawy stated that the project, executed by Arab Contractors under the supervision of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, aims to improve water flow and fish breeding conditions. This initiative is being implemented in three phases, involving the dredging of approximately 37 million cubic meters in total, and includes the construction of marinas for fishermen and security forces.

Hani El Iskandarani, head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, highlighted that Lake Burullus is Egypt's second-largest natural lake, spanning 108,000 feddans. It was declared a nature reserve in 1998 and is home to 28 islands.

Officials noted that the project integrates dredging with waterway development to restore the lake's water depth and circulation, thereby supporting its ecological and economic significance.
