Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly stated that the government places great importance on developing Egypt's sports sector and supporting the country's various national teams. He emphasized that the government is providing all the necessary support to ensure Egypt successfully hosts the 2027 African Games, particularly given the country's world-class sports facilities and extensive experience in organizing major sporting events.According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouly highlighted the importance of thoroughly preparing the Egyptian teams participating in the games to achieve outstanding results, akin to the national football team's achievements at the World Cup. His remarks came during a meeting held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, with Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil to review preparations for Egypt's hosting of the 2027 African Games, which will also serve as a qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.During the meeting, Nabil reviewed the organizational and technical prepar ations for hosting the 2027 African Games, as well as coordination mechanisms with African sports institutions. He noted Egypt's support for proposals to increase the number of sports included in the African qualification events for the LA 2028 Olympics, providing African athletes with greater opportunities to qualify and compete on the Olympic stage.The minister asserted that Egypt's significant organizational, technical, and logistical capabilities will enable it to deliver an exceptional edition of the African Games, reflecting the country's prominent position in Africa and across the international sporting community. The meeting also included a review of the main components of the technical preparation plans submitted by the Olympic federations for the LA 2028 Olympic Games. These plans cover qualification systems, teams targeted for preparation, teams expected to qualify, and promising teams with medal potential.Nabil emphasized the support provided to Egypt's national teams and elite athletes, inclu ding domestic and overseas training camps, participation in continental and international competitions, medical training and rehabilitation services, and other forms of assistance aimed at ensuring the highest levels of performance. He stated that the ministry is coordinating with relevant ministries, the Egyptian Olympic Committee, and all national sports federations to review preparation and qualification programs for Egyptian teams, as well as funding mechanisms.
