PM: Egypt Eyes Greater Cooperation with ESCWA

Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said the future of regional development depends on enhanced integration in the energy, transport, trade, and investment sectors, not just isolated national efforts, to serve joint interests of all nations.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouly made the remarks during a meeting on Monday, June 15, 2026, with UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Rania El-Mashat. This meeting marked El-Mashat's first official visit to Egypt since assuming her new role earlier this month.

Madbouly emphasized Egypt's commitment to solidifying its position as a regional hub for energy and logistics. He highlighted ongoing efforts to utilize Egypt's infrastructure development to enhance connectivity between Arab and African nations through initiatives such as electricity interconnection projects, port development, and cross-border trade networks.

Mashat, in turn, outlined ESCWA's vision to maximize cooperation among its member states, emphasizing the importance of mutual benefits as a foundation for collaboration.
