Planning Minister Discusses Enhancing Sustainable Development with UN Resident Coordinator

Cairo: Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Ahmed Rostom welcomed the UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt, Ms. Elena Panova, to discuss enhancing sustainable development through joint cooperation. The meeting aimed to align efforts with urgent national priorities, reflecting the enduring strategic partnership between Egypt and the United Nations system.According to State Information Service Egypt, Dr. Rostom emphasized a proactive approach in the Ministry, focusing on early action and efficient resource allocation. He stressed the importance of translating joint programs into tangible outcomes that bolster growth, particularly through investments in advanced technology. This focus aims to improve the monitoring of public investments and the development of innovative financing mechanisms, ultimately enhancing sustainable growth in Egypt's economy.The Minister highlighted that the new fiscal year's economic and social development plan seeks to maximize developmental returns from international part nerships. Dr. Rostom stressed the need to align UN programs with significant national initiatives, such as the presidential "Decent Life" initiative, to ensure developmental benefits reach vulnerable communities. He also proposed the implementation of a feedback system and accurate data usage to evaluate program performance and ensure sustainable results.In response, Ms. Elena Panova reiterated the UN system's commitment to Egypt's development vision, acknowledging the mutual trust that defines this partnership. She outlined the 'Strategic Partnership Framework 2023-2027,' which prioritizes investment in human capital, economic empowerment, green growth, and addressing climate change challenges. Additionally, it focuses on establishing governance and transparency principles in institutional performance.Both parties agreed to enhance technical coordination in the upcoming weeks by organizing joint workshops. These workshops aim to review current cooperation framework performance indicators and lay the foun dation for the next phase of partnership with the UN system, ensuring that strategic goals translate into projects with significant social and economic impacts.
