Cairo:Minister of Planning and Economic Development and Egypt's Governor at the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, Dr. Ahmed Rostom, engaged in discussions with an IsDB delegation on Monday, November 2, 2026. The meeting, held with the delegation led by Nour El Din Mabrouk, Director of the Group's Regional Office in Cairo, focused on a proposed framework for a new country cooperation strategy between Egypt and the Bank for the period of 2027-2031.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions included topics on expanding cooperation to support development efforts, enhance private sector participation, and promote innovative financing mechanisms. Dr. Rostom praised the IsDB Group's significant role as a partner to the Egyptian government, highlighting their involvement in financing trade flows and providing strategic commodities. He pointed out the substantial joint cooperation portfolio between Egypt and the IsDB, amounting to approximately $26 billion.

Dr. Rostom also shared insights into Egypt's National Economic Transformation Programme aimed at reform consolidation, economic resilience, and inclusive development. The programme targets key sectors like manufacturing, IT, energy, tourism, and agriculture to boost GDP, employment, and exports. He discussed the Infrastructure Project Finance Guarantee Mechanism developed with the World Bank and invited IsDB's participation to facilitate long-term local currency financing and mitigate investment risks in infrastructure projects.

Nour El Din Mabrouk emphasized the robust relations between the IsDB and Egypt, noting the bank's recent strategy approval for supporting member countries. He mentioned the ongoing discussions with Egypt to align the 2027-2031 cooperation strategy with national priorities, focusing on education, health, essential commodities, and strategic projects in water and energy sectors, aiming to improve citizens' quality of life.
