Cairo: Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom, Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdel Aziz Qansouh convened to explore strategies for enhancing the support of public and private universities, aiming to strengthen higher education's contribution to comprehensive development goals.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on sustainable funding mechanisms and the development of educational and research infrastructure. These efforts are expected to improve the educational process and align educational outcomes with labor market needs. The ministers stressed the importance of maximizing the benefits of investments in the higher education sector by improving spending efficiency and linking funding to performance indicators.
Ahmed Rostom highlighted that an improved education system is crucial for human development, emphasizing the state's commitment to enhancing education quality and ensuring equal opportunities as part of "Egypt Vision 2030." He noted that quality education builds capabilities, raises skills, and enhances labor market opportunities, supporting sustainable economic growth and fostering a knowledge-based society.
Rostom also stated that the investment plan prioritizes the higher education sector as a key driver of human capital development and a knowledge-based economy. The Ministry is directing investments according to national priorities to enhance university efficiency and competitiveness, supporting both public and technological universities and developing research infrastructure.
Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk reiterated the Ministry's commitment to supporting the higher education sector, ensuring necessary funding for sustainable development. He emphasized innovative financing mechanisms to expand educational projects and improve spending efficiency, aligning with Egypt's Vision 2030 goals. Kouchouk also highlighted the importance of private sector partnerships and innovative financing for economic and social returns.
In parallel, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Abdel Aziz Qansouh stressed private universities' role in higher education development and supporting a knowledge-based economy. He noted their contribution to high-quality education and modern academic programs aligned with labor market needs. Dr. Qansouh emphasized linking scientific research to industry, promoting applied research, and supporting business incubators and technology parks to enhance innovation and competitiveness.
Dr. Abdel Aziz Qansouh affirmed that coordination with the Ministries of Planning and Finance aligns with a comprehensive vision to make Egypt a regional and international hub for higher education and scientific research, supporting sustainable development and empowering Egyptian citizens.
