Petroleum Minister Inspects New Mediterranean Deep-Water Gas Rig

Cairo: Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi inspected the deep-water drilling vessel Stena IceMax in the North Cleopatra area of the Mediterranean to follow up on operations at the new natural gas exploration well 'Felix-1X.'

According to State Information Service Egypt, the sixth-generation deep-water drilling vessel, operated by Stena Drilling, is carrying out a program to drill several wells off the Egyptian coast. These include the development well 'Mina West' and the exploration wells 'Sirius' and 'Felix.'

The Ministry highlighted that the Stena IceMax is among the most advanced drilling units operating in the region. This reflects the scale and technical capabilities of ongoing exploration activities in the Mediterranean.

This inspection is part of Egypt's continued efforts to expand natural gas exploration and production activities. It also aims to attract investment in the country's energy sector.
