Petroleum Min.: Egypt Targets Oil Self-Sufficiency, Higher Gas Output Under Five-Year Plan

Cairo: Egypt aims to achieve self-sufficiency in crude oil and continue increasing natural gas production under a new five-year exploration and production plan, Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi said on Friday 19/12/2025.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the strategy is part of a broader initiative to enhance the country's energy sector, ensuring that Egypt can meet its own oil demands while also boosting its natural gas output. The plan underscores Egypt's commitment to optimizing its energy resources and promoting sustainable development within the sector.

The announcement marks a significant step for Egypt as it seeks to bolster its domestic energy industry amid fluctuating global oil prices. The focus on self-sufficiency is expected to reduce Egypt's reliance on oil imports, potentially leading to economic savings and increased energy security.

In addition to oil self-sufficiency, the plan aims to expand Egypt's natural gas production capabilities. This effort is in line with the country's ongoing projects to explore and develop new gas fields, which have seen considerable investments and international partnerships in recent years.
