Cairo: The National Election Authority (NEA), led by Counselor Hazem Badawi, has announced the opening of nominations for the upcoming Senate elections, with the nomination period set from July 5 to 10. Voting is scheduled to occur outside Egypt on August 1 and 2, and within Egypt on August 4 and 5.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Counselor Badawi made the announcement during a press conference organized by the NEA to outline the election schedule. The submission of candidacy applications will be open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except on the final day, July 10, when submissions will close at 2:00 PM. The lists of candidates and their electoral symbols will be released on July 11.
The administrative judiciary court will manage any appeals from July 14 to July 16. The final list of candidates will be revealed on July 18, with July 20 as the deadline for withdrawing candidacies. The election silence period will commence on July 31, with results expected on August 12. Following the announcement of results, a 48-hour period will be available for submitting appeals, which the Supreme Administrative Court will review within ten days.
Counselor Badawi also stated that if a runoff phase is necessary, the election silence period will start on August 24. Runoff voting will occur abroad on August 25 and 26, and within Egypt on August 27 and 28, with results to be announced on September 4.
Badawi urged all eligible voters, both inside and outside Egypt, to actively participate in the elections, emphasizing that voting is both a constitutional right and a national responsibility. He highlighted the NEA's commitment to transparency and honesty and its efforts to raise awareness among voters, particularly youth and women.
