Cairo: Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity and Chairwoman of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, attended a high-level event on implementing the Arab Summit Strategy to promote volunteer work. The event, held on September 7, 2026, brought together key figures in social development from across the Arab world.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the event saw participation from notable attendees, including Minister Plenipotentiary Tarek Nabil El-Nabulsi, Director of the Department of Social Development and Policies at the League of Arab States; Cristina Albertin, UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt; Abdullah Al-Muhaidli, Secretary-General of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Crescent Organization; Wafaa Joris, Head of the Delegation of Jordan; Ayman Abdel Mawgoud, Permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity; and Dina El-Sayrafy, Assistant Minister for International Cooperation.
Dr. Morsy welcomed participants to Egypt and expressed gratitude to the League of Arab States and UN Volunteers for organizing the event. She emphasized the strategic importance of the Arab Strategy to Promote Volunteer Work and highlighted the necessary factors for its success, including legislative support, digital transformation, and crisis response capabilities.
She elaborated on the cultural significance of volunteer work, noting its deep-rooted presence in Egyptian society and its importance in fostering community responsibility. Dr. Morsy cited the Egyptian Red Crescent's extensive volunteer network as a model of effective community mobilization, particularly during crises like the Gaza situation.
The minister praised the Hayah Karima Foundation and other initiatives for organizing volunteer efforts into a force for development. She highlighted the role of Egyptian civil society in promoting food-distribution initiatives and the integration of volunteerism in educational institutions.
Dr. Morsy stressed the need to instill a volunteer culture from childhood, with efforts like the "Little Rescuer" initiative by the Egyptian Red Crescent, aimed at teaching children rescue skills and community service. She called the Arab world to capitalize on its youth and technological resources to make volunteerism an institutionalized effort.
Minister Plenipotentiary Tarek Nabil El-Nabulsi thanked Dr. Morsy for her leadership, noting Egypt's commitment to volunteerism and the pivotal role of its institutions. Cristina Albertin commended Egypt's participation in the International Year of Volunteers for Development, highlighting the country's commitment to sustainable development through volunteerism.
