Cairo: Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania al-Mashat met with China Export-Import Bank President Chen Huayu to explore ways to strengthen cooperation and expand the bank's investments in Egypt, as stated by the ministry. This marks Chen's inaugural visit to Egypt and Africa. During their discussions, Mashat introduced the government's newly launched 'National Narrative for Economic Development: Policies Supporting Growth and Employment,' which outlines economic policy priorities up to the year 2030.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Mashat emphasized that Egypt's forthcoming phase aims at ensuring economic stability, enhancing the role of the private sector, and boosting productivity in export-driven industries. The discussions were held within the framework of the high-level ties and comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China. Mashat expressed her appreciation for Chen's visit and lauded the bank's role in financing priority projects, highlighting that the partnership mirrors the close relationship established under the countries' 2014 Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Mashat also provided Chen with insights into Egypt's structural reform program, aimed at improving the business environment, strengthening local industries, and promoting a more competitive and sustainable economy. She praised Exim Bank's involvement in financing the first and second phases of Egypt's Light Rail Transit project, as well as the ongoing third phase and the planned fourth phase, executed in collaboration with Chinese partners. Additionally, Mashat highlighted Egypt's commitment to a green transition, citing the Nexus of Water, Food and Energy (NWFE) program as a model for attracting climate investments. She encouraged the bank to promote the participation of Chinese private companies and to explore further joint opportunities.

Chen expressed that China considers Egypt a strategic partner for Exim Bank and acknowledged the allure of the Egyptian market for Chinese businesses. He also praised the ministry's efforts in coordinating and implementing joint projects. Both parties conveyed their readiness to deepen economic cooperation, especially in the areas of new and renewable energy industries.
