Minister of Local Development Unveils Cooperation Protocol with AASTMT for Educational Programs

Cairo: Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad and President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) Ismail Abdel Ghafar witnessed the signing of a comprehensive cooperation protocol aimed at launching degree and diploma programs for local government personnel. This strategic initiative seeks to align with the Ministry's developmental objectives through professional training and academic programs ranging from undergraduate degrees to specialized diplomas and master's.According to State Information Service Egypt, the agreement was signed by Assistant Minister for Training, Development, and Digital Transformation Essam El-Gohary and Dean of the College of Management and Technology Ashraf Adel Labib. The protocol supports Egypt Vision 2030, emphasizing the cultivation of a highly qualified administrative cadre through joint research, specialized local governance curricula, and international knowledge exchange.Awad emphasized that the partnership's primary focus is the integration of graduates into the workforce, providing program participants with preferential status for vacancies within the Ministry's administrative units. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical local administration.To facilitate this, students will receive accredited certifications through the Local Development Training Center in Sakkara, which serves as a central hub for vocational excellence. Ismail Abdel Ghafar confirmed the Academy's dedication to providing the necessary technical resources to fulfill the Ministry's cross-sectoral vision, with AASTMT set to deliver customized training modules and conduct applied research to address contemporary challenges in the local development sector.The collaboration is a vital component of the Ministry's long-term goal to upgrade the Sakkara Center into a full-fledged "Local Administration Academy" as part of the 2024-2027 Government Work Program. Gohary highlighted that this move aims to enhance technical pe rformance indicators and institutional efficiency across all local units.Concluding the session, Labib stated that the College of Management and Technology (CMT) will provide the specialized expertise required to forge international partnerships. This ensures that Egypt's local administration training adheres to global standards and modern management frameworks.
