Manal Awad Balances Biodiversity and Wind Energy Projects in Gulf of Suez

Cairo: Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment Dr. Manal Awad has initiated efforts to harmonize the implementation of wind energy projects with the preservation of biodiversity in the Gulf of Suez. During a meeting with Major General Mohamed Issa, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), and other environmental experts, strategies were discussed to achieve this balance.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Dr. Awad reviewed a presentation highlighting the center's role in current and future wind energy projects in the region. The RCREEE, an international governmental organization, aims to enhance the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency across the Arab region. This involves developing strategic studies and implementing effective management programs for wind turbines in the Gulf of Suez, while also accommodating national requirements to protect migratory bird populations.

Dr. Awad emphasized the importance of adhering to established standards for wind energy projects that consider biodiversity preservation and migratory bird routes. She noted the necessity of ensuring that these projects do not impede development and investments in the wind energy sector. Additionally, the center's involvement in crafting a strategic environmental and social study ensures that energy projects meet environmental standards and avoid sensitive areas, thereby protecting migratory birds.
