Amman: King Abdullah II of Jordan emphasized the necessity for a unified Arab and Islamic stance to counter unprecedented Israeli actions in Jerusalem, particularly concerning the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Noble Sanctuary.

According to Union of OIC News Agencies, during a meeting at Al-Husseiniya Palace with the Arab Ministerial Committee tasked with confronting illegal Israeli policies in occupied Jerusalem, King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's commitment to its historical and legal role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city. This commitment is based on the Hashemite custodianship over these sites.

The committee's delegation comprised foreign ministers from Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Palestine, Egypt, and Morocco, alongside the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, and representatives from Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, and Malaysia.

In the presence of Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, King Abdullah warned against exploiting regional unrest to alter the status quo in Jerusalem. He also highlighted the risk of conflict escalation due to continued Israeli actions in the West Bank, including land annexation and settlement expansion.

The meeting also involved discussions on adhering to the comprehensive peace plan's stages concerning the Gaza Strip. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, the King's chief advisor for religious and cultural affairs, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi were among the attendees. Engineer Alaa Batayneh, Director of the King's Office, was also present.
