Cairo: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilem received a report from Head of the Groundwater Sector Mr. Abu Bakr Al-Rouby, regarding the renewal of the accreditation of the Central Laboratory of the Groundwater Sector in El-Wadi Al-Gadid (New Valley) with the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) for a number of chemical and microbiological water tests, for a period of four years (December 2025 - December 2029).According to State Information Service Egypt, Dr. Sweilem stated that he is committed to developing the Ministry's laboratories and equipping them with the latest high-tech equipment, in addition to working on raising the efficiency of laboratory staff through training. This is to achieve optimal utilization of the Ministry's laboratories' capabilities, enhance their efficiency, and add new elements to the list of international accreditations in the future. This stems from a belief in the important role of scientific research and modern technology in water management and water qualit y monitoring within the framework of the second generation of the Water 2.0 system.Dr. Sweilem emphasized that the Ministry is keen to monitor the beneficiaries' compliance with the regulations and requirements for using groundwater through continuous monitoring by the groundwater sector authorities in various governorates. This is achieved through a system for monitoring and controlling the groundwater wells belonging to the Ministry, in conjunction with facilitating the procedures for issuing licenses through the electronic licensing system that was launched during the past period.Sweilem explained that this continuous monitoring aims to achieve optimal management of this important water resource and its rational use, especially since deep groundwater in Egypt is non-renewable water and is located at great depths.
