Irrigation Minister Reviews Progress of Decent Life Initiative Water Projects

Cairo: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam reviewed the current status of water projects under the presidential Decent Life initiative. The review focused on the canal rehabilitation works being carried out in the first and second phases of the program.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministry has completed rehabilitation on 978 canals in the first phase, with work on 21 additional canals progressing at 98% completion. In the second phase, 340 canals have been completed, while work on 210 canals is ongoing, marking a 62% progress rate. Minister Sewilam has instructed ministry agencies to adhere to approved timelines and maintain quality standards in collaboration with contractors.

The Decent Life initiative, launched in 2019 under President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, aims to enhance living conditions in rural areas through various service projects. The ministry has significantly contributed by implementing flood protection measures, protecting the Nile banks, introducing solar-powered groundwater pumping projects, and designating irrigation land for public facilities in several governorates.
