Cairo:Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam attended the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Islamic Network for Water Resources Development and Management (INWRDAM) and the Dutch side to initiate a rainwater harvesting project in Wadi Feiran, South Sinai. The project involves constructing 50 mountain lakes.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this signing took place during a session organized by INWRDAM as part of Cairo Water Week. The session was attended by the network’s Executive Director, Marwan al Raggad, and a representative of the Netherlands embassy in Cairo.
The session highlighted the project's components, scheduled to start soon, and reviewed the success of a similar project implemented in Jordan under the network’s supervision. Minister Sewilam emphasized the project's significance as a climate change adaptation measure and a practical application of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus principles.
The initiative aims to mitigate flash-flood risks, offer a fresh water source for Bedouin communities, and protect infrastructure from flash flood dangers.
