Irrigation Minister Highlights Farmers’ Role in Successful Water Management

Cairo: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam extended his congratulations to Egyptian farmers on the occasion of Farmers' Day, celebrated annually on September 9th. Sewilam emphasized that the ongoing water projects by the ministry are primarily designed to support farmers and ensure that the agricultural sector in Egypt receives adequate water resources.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Sewilam noted that this year's Farmers' Day coincides with the conclusion of the peak water-demand season. The ministry's agencies have made significant efforts to ensure the needs of all water users were met in the required quantities and at the appropriate times. Sewilam credited the success of the current summer season to the diligent participation of farmers, who adhered to irrigation schedules, maintained private canals, and protected waterways from encroachments and waste.

The minister highlighted the ministry's efforts in developing and maintaining the water system, which includes canals, drains, pumping stations, and other water structures. He urged farmers to continue collaborating with the ministry for effective water management and stressed the importance of water user associations in safeguarding the water system from pollution and encroachments.

In recent years, the ministry has focused on improving water distribution and modernizing management strategies, which contributed to the successful provision of irrigation and drinking water during the summer season, Sewilam added.
