Housing Minister Reviews Progress on New Cairo Sewer Infrastructure

New cairo: Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Randa el Menshawy began her inspection tour on Saturday, June 13, 2026, focusing on the New Cairo-Gabal el Asfar sewer project. The project involves the implementation and connection of main sewer gravity lines, which boast a total capacity of 500,000 cubic meters per day, feeding into the Gabal El Asfar wastewater treatment plant. This initiative is part of the government's plan to enhance utility infrastructure and support urban expansion.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Menshawy emphasized the strategic importance of the sewer line project, which aims to improve the efficiency of New Cairo's wastewater system. The project is designed to accommodate the city's rapid urban and population growth by enhancing the system's capacity. Menshawy highlighted that the project will improve wastewater transport and drainage, reduce pressure on existing networks, and ensure reliable municipal services for residents.

During the visit, the minister was updated on the progress of implementation, which includes connecting several main gravity lines of different diameters to serve residential areas across the city. She noted the completion of the Showifat main station line, which is now fully operational and transfers 46,000 cubic meters of wastewater daily to the Gabal El Asfar treatment plant.

Menshawy called for continuous monitoring of the project's implementation rates and adherence to timelines to ensure its timely completion. This approach aligns with the state's strategy to develop infrastructure and improve living standards in new urban areas.
