Cairo: Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar reviewed on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the progress of the development project at Al-Hilal Orthopedic Hospital, alongside several hospitals affiliated with the Specialized Medical Centers (SMC).
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Ministry's official spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stated that the minister reviewed a detailed report on Al-Hilal Hospital's achievements from April to November 2025.
The report highlighted the August inauguration of the Intermediate Care Unit, which successfully reduced ICU bed waiting times to a single case over the past three months. Additionally, the hospital's Intensive Care Department underwent comprehensive upgrades. Minister Abdel Ghaffar also instructed the completion of external development works, which include improvements to the hospital fa§ade and lighting, recognizing its prominent location.
Plans were also discussed for introducing surgical robotics technology and training medical staff in its use, aiming to enhance the hospital's service offerings. The minister also followed up on the development and capacity enhancement plans for several hospitals under the Specialized Medical Centers. These include New Cairo Hospital, Sheikh Zayed Specialized Hospital, Qalyub Specialized Hospital, Qaha Hospital, Al-Salam Specialized Hospital, the National Bank Hospital, as well as Rod Al-Farag Ophthalmology Hospital and Helwan Geriatric Hospital.
Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that the minister highlighted the importance of accelerating progress according to established timelines. He also stressed the need to increase the number of radioactive iodine therapy beds to eliminate patient waiting lists in these facilities.
