Cairo: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar received his Latvian counterpart Hussam Abu Marai, and the accompanying delegation, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in various healthcare fields between the two countries.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Conference on Population, Health and Development 2025, held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi from November 12 to 15, 2025. Official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population Hossam Abdel Ghaffar explained that the meeting discussed training programs for healthcare providers across various specialties. Both sides agreed to exchange doctors and nursing teams between Egypt and Latvia to share expertise and develop professional skills.
The two ministers also discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of medical tourism, in which Latvia has particular experience. They agreed to exchange expertise in the fields of emergency and critical care, cardiology, and oncology.
The Egyptian minister reviewed the state's efforts and achievements in these areas, highlighting the role of presidential initiatives in reducing disease rates through early detection, especially of various types of cancer, and combating heart diseases.
