Foreign Ministers Affirm Robust Egypt-Germany Relations in Phone Call

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriate Badr Abdelatty praised during a phone call Tuesday, January 13, 2026, with his German counterpart Johann Wadephull distinguished relations between Egypt and Germany across the various fields.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the call was part of regular consultations between the two ministers aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and discussing regional developments. Abdelatty highlighted the recent launch of a political consultation mechanism at the foreign ministerial level in December, which signifies the depth of bilateral ties and a mutual desire to enhance cooperation. He acknowledged Germany as a key partner to Egypt and expressed aspirations for ongoing support and bolstered collaboration, particularly in the economic and investment domains.

During the conversation, the ministers addressed regional issues, with a focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty stressed the necessity of progressing to the second phase of the US plan, which includes forming a temporary Palestinian technocratic committee to manage daily affairs in the area. This plan also involves establishing an international stabilization force in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2803, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Abdelatty further stated that the only guarantee for regional stability is achieving a political settlement based on international legitimacy resolutions, which includes the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
