Foreign Minister Engages in Strategic Dialogue with IAEA Chief on Iranian Nuclear Issue

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, conducted a phone call on June 30, 2025, with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, in light of the directives of the President of the Republic to intensify efforts aimed at supporting de-escalation initiatives in the region and promoting diplomatic solutions regarding the Iranian nuclear file and the resumption of negotiations.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during the call, Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt's full support for the vital role played by the IAEA within the verification framework under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and its Statute. He affirmed that Egypt attaches great importance to preserving the credibility of the Treaty as a cornerstone of the global non-proliferation regime and looked forward to continuing coordination and cooperation with the IAEA.

Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of consolidating the ceasefire between Iran and Israel and of prioritizing diplomatic solutions in addressing the Iranian nuclear issue in a manner that contributes to de-escalation, reducing tensions, and fostering regional peace and stability. Minister Abdelatty also listened to the Director General's assessment of current developments, the outcomes of his recent engagements, and prospects for achieving de-escalation during this sensitive period in pursuit of a political settlement.

For his part, the Director General commended Egypt's pivotal role in supporting regional peace and stability and praised the efforts it has undertaken to de-escalate tensions and consolidate the ceasefire efforts that pave the way for the resumption of negotiations between the concerned parties. He also expressed high appreciation for the outcomes of his visit to Cairo earlier this month and his honor of being received by the President of the Republic.

The Director General further noted the President's steadfast support for a peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue, the reinforcement of the non-proliferation regime, and the establishment of a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East.
