Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of strengthening international mechanisms for food security, particularly amid the ongoing escalation in the region and its severe repercussions for food security, as well as disruptions to production and supply chains. Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting Tuesday, September 15, 2026, with Acting Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Carl Skau to discuss ways of strengthening existing cooperation between Egypt and the WFP and the programme's efforts to support food security and respond to growing humanitarian needs in a number of crisis-hit areas.According to State Information Service Egypt, during the meeting, Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation with the WFP. The talks also addressed the catastrophic humanitarian situations in the Gaza Strip and Sudan. The UN official expressed deep appreciation for Egypt's sincere efforts to support po litical and diplomatic solutions, its leading role in promoting de-escalation and reducing tensions in the region, and its continued efforts to support regional stability and mitigate the severity of humanitarian crises.For his part, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's ongoing efforts to ensure full and sustained access for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, stressing that Egypt would continue to stand by the Palestinian people. He underscored the need to mobilize international efforts to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and its access to those in need, while supporting early recovery efforts.Abdelatty also highlighted Egypt's steadfast position in support of Sudan's unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions, as well as its efforts to support the humanitarian situation. He stressed the importance of ending the conflict in a manner that contributes to reaching a comprehensive political settlement that preserves Sudan's sovereignty and meets the aspirations of its people for securit y, stability and development.
