Egypt Condemns Israeli Settlers’ Storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Warns of Escalation

Cairo: Egypt on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, strongly condemned Israeli settlers' storming of the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli forces, calling it a blatant violation of the sanctity of religious sites in Jerusalem.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the foreign ministry issued a statement warning that repeated violations could fuel tensions and undermine efforts to restore calm and stability, while seeking to impose a new reality at the mosque.

The statement emphasized Egypt's stance on preserving the historic and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa as a place of worship exclusively for Muslims. It rejected any attempts to divide the site temporally or spatially or undermine Jordan's custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Furthermore, Egypt urged the international community to take action against such violations to prevent further escalation and maintain peace in the region.
