Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Saturday, June 13, 2026, with Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al Sheikh to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and ongoing efforts to advance peace and stability.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the talks focused on efforts to implement the commitments of the first phase of US President Donald Trump's peace initiative, including ensuring the full and sustained delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip, as stated by Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf.
The discussions also covered plans for the deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and facilitate the safe delivery of humanitarian aid. Both sides reviewed efforts to enable the National Committee for Gaza Administration to begin carrying out its responsibilities from within the Strip until the Palestinian Authority can fully resume its governing functions, thereby helping to reinforce stability and create conditions conducive to subsequent phases of the peace process, Khallaf noted.
Khallaf further mentioned that the call also addressed the deteriorating situation in the West Bank. Abdelatty strongly condemned the escalation of settlement activities and the continued Israeli violations in East Jerusalem and at Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning that such actions threaten prospects for peace and stability in the region.
Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's longstanding support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He stressed the importance of empowering the Palestinian Authority to fully assume its responsibilities and preserving the unity of the Palestinian territories in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. These principles were described as essential foundations for any just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue.
For his part, Al Sheikh expressed appreciation for Egypt's role in supporting the Palestinian cause and its efforts to halt escalation, achieve calm, and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.
