FM Abdelatty Receives Phone Call from US Envoy Witkoff

Cairo: US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff has praised Egypt's diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a potential agreement between Washington and Tehran, according to Egypt's Foreign Ministry. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty received a phone call on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from Witkoff, during which they discussed the latest developments in US-Iran negotiations and ongoing contacts to secure a deal that would help de-escalate regional tensions and pave the way for a new phase of security and stability in the Middle East.According to State Information Service Egypt, during the call, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's support for efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement that takes into account the concerns of all parties, stressing the importance of seizing the current opportunity to end conflict and promote regional stability. He also reaffirmed Cairo's readiness to continue coordinating with regional and international partners to facilitate a final settlement.For his part, Witkoff commended the intensive efforts undertaken by regional actors, including Egypt, to support the negotiation process, expressing hope that a potential agreement would contribute to strengthening peace and stability in the region.
