Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi to review bilateral cooperation on peaceful uses of nuclear energy, the foreign ministry said.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's appreciation for the IAEA's role in verification under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its statute. He reiterated Cairo's commitment to upholding the treaty's universality and credibility as a key component of the global non-proliferation regime.
The conversation highlighted ongoing collaboration with the agency on Egypt's El-Dabaa nuclear power plant. Abdelatty described the project as a model of coordination between Egypt and the IAEA, aligning with national development goals.
The discussion also touched on Iran's nuclear program. Abdelatty emphasized the importance of sustaining efforts to reduce tensions and build confidence. He called for renewed diplomatic engagement aimed at achieving a comprehensive agreement that considers the interests of all parties and enhances regional security and stability.
