Manila: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty affirmed during his meeting on Thursday, July 23, 2026 with Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira Egypt's pride in its historic and distinguished relations with Brazil, describing it as a strategic partner and a key country in Latin America.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was held on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers' meeting in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. During the meeting, the two ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged views on the most prominent regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Abdelatty praised the steady development of bilateral relations since the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two countries. He stressed Egypt's commitment to building on this positive momentum and enhancing consultation mechanisms across various fields.
The Foreign Minister noted that Egypt attaches special importance to strengthening South-South cooperation, based on its belief in the importance of fostering partnerships built on mutual interests and promoting economic and development cooperation among developing countries to address global challenges and achieve sustainable development.
He emphasized Egypt's interest in strengthening ties with Latin American and Caribbean countries and expanding cooperation with regional blocs in the continent, particularly Mercosur, in a way that serves mutual interests and opens new horizons for economic, trade and investment cooperation, while also enhancing political coordination in international forums. He described Brazil as a key partner for Egypt in advancing this approach.
Abdelatty further stressed that enhancing economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries remains a priority, highlighting the importance of building on the growth achieved in bilateral trade, particularly in light of the increase in Egyptian exports to Brazil.
The meeting also discussed regional developments, as Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and highlighted the country's intensive diplomatic contacts and initiatives aimed at restoring stability.
For his part, Vieira praised the continued development of bilateral relations and expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's active role in supporting regional stability. He also voiced Brazil's aspiration to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the coming period.
