Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met representatives of several US Jewish organizations on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in New York to discuss Egypt-US relations, Gaza, and the latest developments in the Middle East. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's intent to expand its strategic relationship with the United States and enhance cooperation between the two nations. He emphasized the importance of peaceful and political solutions to regional conflicts, highlighting the Egypt-Israel peace treaty as a testament to Egypt's dedication to peace and stability.During the discussions, Abdelatty outlined Egypt's mediation efforts and the ceasefire agreement after the war, urging the implementation of the second phase and the continuation of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. He affirmed Egypt's o pposition to any initiatives aimed at displacing Palestinians or forcing them out of Gaza.Moreover, Abdelatty addressed Israeli actions in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, pointing out settlement expansions, the E1 project, potential annexation, and attempts to alter the legal and historical status of Jerusalem's holy sites. He emphasized that these actions pose a threat to the territorial integrity of a prospective Palestinian state and urged their cessation. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
