Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed to Somali Foreign Minister Abdilsalam Abdi Ali, Egypt's categorical rejection of any unilateral measures that could undermine Somalia's territorial unity or sovereignty. During their meeting on Monday, September 7, 2026, on the sidelines of the 166th ministerial session of the Council of the League of Arab States in Cairo, the Foreign Minister also reaffirmed Egypt's full support for Somalia's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its national institutions.According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty praised the significant progress in Egyptian-Somali relations, stressing Egypt's commitment to further developing bilateral ties in the economic, development and investment fields. The Minister stressed Egypt's continued support for efforts to build Somalia's state institutions and strengthen their capabilities, as well as the importance of working with international par tners to secure sustainable funding for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia, noting Egypt's participation in the mission.He also called for continued efforts to expedite the release of Egyptian sailors detained off the Somali coast, ensure their safety, and secure their release through continued engagement by the Somali authorities.
