Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty extended his sincere congratulations to Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad on her appointment as Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).According to State Information Service Egypt, this appointment is a testament to Fouad's competence and professional expertise, reflecting the high esteem she holds internationally. Abdelatty expressed these sentiments during a meeting with Fouad on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.Abdelatty highlighted the strong coordination and cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Environment across multiple fields, which bolsters Egypt's role in global climate action. The meeting also focused on the ongoing joint efforts related to the Climate Responses for Sustaining Peace (CRSP) initiative. This initiative was launched under Egypt's presidency of COP27 through the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacek eeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA).The CRSP initiative exemplifies the integrated approach adopted by government entities to further national priorities. Abdelatty praised the collaborative work of both ministries in presenting Egypt's unified stance on environmental issues.He emphasized the need to enhance efforts in developing environmentally and climate-focused projects in preparation for submission to major international financing mechanisms. These include the Loss and Damage Fund and the Green Climate Fund. The Loss and Damage Fund is a climate finance mechanism established during the 27th Conference of Parties (COP27), held in Egypt in 2022.
