Egypt and UNESCO Collaborate to Revamp Agricultural Museum

Cairo: Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk recently convened with Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo Noria Sanz to deliberate joint efforts aimed at renovating the Agricultural Museum located in Dokki, Giza governorate, Greater Cairo. The meeting underscored the importance of preserving Egypt's agricultural heritage and documenting the historical development of the sector.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions emphasized the museum's potential to become a key center for knowledge and innovation in agricultural heritage, as well as a prominent educational and cultural destination both locally and internationally. The collaboration is expected to involve maintenance, conservation, attractive exhibition design, and technical support from UNESCO. This support includes staff training and the use of advanced technologies to ensure the long-term preservation of artefacts, along with efforts to promote the museum on a global scale.

Minister Farouk has directed the ministry's technical teams to coordinate with the ministries of tourism and antiquities and culture. These coordination meetings aim to develop a mechanism for preserving the museum's collections and reopening it to the public. This is contingent upon UNESCO's comprehensive assessment of the museum's development needs.
