Cairo:Egyptian national junior badminton player Fatemah Rabie won the gold medal at the African Under-19 Championship, held at Hall No. 2 of the Cairo Stadium from September 27 to October 3.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Rabie secured her victory by defeating her fellow national team player Lojaine Wasfy 2-0 in the final match on Saturday evening. Wasfy, who earned the silver medal, was bested with set scores of 17-15 and 15-9.
In addition to Rabie's success, Egyptian player Hadia El-Gendy achieved a bronze medal in the singles category after being defeated by Rabie 2-1 in an earlier round.
The championship featured participation from 12 national teams, including Egypt, Tunisia, Uganda, Algeria, Seychelles, South Africa, Mauritius, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Libya, and Zambia. This event served as a preparatory competition for the upcoming World Junior Championship.
