Cairo: Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly represented President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the opening session of the 3rd Global Conference of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representatives in the New Administrative Capital.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the FAO, commenced his speech by acknowledging his presence in Cairo for the inauguration of the conference, noting the significance of Cairo as the host of the FAO's Regional Office. He expressed gratitude to the Egyptian leadership, highlighting the support of President El-Sisi and Prime Minister Madbouly. Qu Dongyu praised their efforts in bolstering the organization's mission, emphasizing the generous hospitality and support provided for the conference.

The FAO Director-General described the conference as a vital opportunity for reflection and knowledge sharing, aligning the organization's efforts with global needs amid challenges like food insecurity, conflicts, climate shocks, and economic instability. He noted the timing of the conference as pivotal, coinciding with the preparation to implement the organization's new Medium-Term Plan.

Qu Dongyu highlighted the 80th anniversary of the FAO, celebrating decades of combating hunger and transforming agri-food systems globally. He stressed the organization's commitment to supporting diverse groups, including farmers, consumers, and scientists, in the pursuit of peace and prosperity.

Emphasizing the current crucial juncture for the FAO, Qu Dongyu urged a proactive approach to address emerging global challenges. He pointed to strategic reviews and plans as opportunities to adapt, stressing the importance of partnerships, innovation, and technology in enhancing the organization's capabilities.

The Director-General discussed updates in the FAO's engagement strategy with the private sector and the importance of decentralized offices in executing the organization's mandate. He highlighted ongoing multi-year restructuring efforts aimed at enhancing resilience and efficiency, moving from crisis response to resilience-building.

Qu Dongyu concluded by affirming the FAO's leadership in proactive interventions, assisting millions globally. He emphasized the importance of member states' feedback in aligning the organization's policies and enhancing trust in its operations.
