Electric Transport Expansion Advances in Cairo

Cairo:Local Development and Environment Minister Manal Awad announced the expansion of electric transport as part of the government's commitment to sustainable solutions that offer environmental, economic, and social benefits. This initiative aims to enhance air quality and reduce emissions while providing modern, safe, and efficient transportation for citizens.

According to State Information Service Egypt, 20 electric buses have been delivered to the Ministry of Transport. These buses will be operated as part of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system on Cairo's Ring Road, in collaboration with MCV.

This development is a segment of the Greater Cairo Air Pollution and Climate Change Management Project, carried out in cooperation with the World Bank. The project is designed to support improvements in public transport services while mitigating pollution and emissions.

Minister Awad emphasized that integrating electric buses into public transport is a practical example of implementing the government's environmental, climate, and sustainable development objectives into concrete projects and services.

The BRT system is expected to decrease the dependence on conventional fossil-fuel-powered transportation and help curb associated pollution.
