Malmo: Egyptian table tennis player Omar Assar qualified for the quarterfinal of the men's singles at the WTT Europe Smash Sweden 2026 in Malmo, Sweden. Assar, ranked 35th globally, moved forward after defeating Denmark's world no. 59 player 3-2 in the round of 16.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Assar reached this stage after a series of victories. He overcame Hungary's world no. 66 player with a 3-0 win in the round of 32 on Thursday and defeated a Chinese opponent 3-2 in the round of 64 on Monday.

Assar is set to compete against Slovenia's world no. 15 player in the next round on Saturday. The championship is taking place in Sweden from August 8 to 16.
