Cairo:Justice Minister Mahmoud El-Sherif is leading Egypt's delegation at the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, focusing on 'Protecting People and Planet in Digital Age.'

According to State Information Service Egypt, the conference is organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). During the event, El-Sherif presented Egypt's strategies in crime prevention, criminal justice system enhancements, and human rights promotion, as outlined in a statement by the Justice Ministry.

El-Sherif emphasized legislative and judicial reforms, such as the new Code of Criminal Procedure, court digitalization, and remote litigation. He also detailed efforts to protect vulnerable groups, combat money laundering and terrorism financing, and modernize correctional centers under the 'Decent Life' initiative.

In discussions with Monica Juma, Executive Director of UNODC, El-Sherif expressed Egypt's appreciation for African leadership in the UN agency and highlighted ongoing cooperation on judicial training and regional centers.

Additionally, El-Sherif participated in a high-level ministerial event with justice ministers from France and Belgium, discussing international judicial cooperation. He also met with his UAE counterpart, along with Egypt's ambassador, to enhance judicial and legal collaboration.
