Cairo:Egypt's Industrial Strategy 2030, as unveiled by Industry Minister Khaled Hashem, seeks to foster a competitive industrial base by promoting local manufacturing and integrating into global supply chains. The strategy was presented at a ceremony hosted by the Egyptian-British Business Association (EBBA), marking the 30th anniversary of the Egyptian-British partnership.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the event featured key figures such as EBBA Chairman Khaled Nosseir, former Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker, and Tareq El-Molla, Chairman of the House of Representatives' Energy and Environment Committee. Minister Hashem outlined the strategy's focus on integrating industries into global supply chains, strategic industries, supporting and feeder industries, enabling industries, and circular economy and recycling industries.
Hashem emphasized the establishment of an integrated support framework for investors and manufacturers, including streamlined licensing procedures and stronger links between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and major industrial companies. Technology alignment with industrial needs and the development of domestic technological capabilities were also highlighted as pivotal elements of the strategy.
The minister also addressed workforce development, revealing plans for a vocational education program to improve the quality of technical and vocational graduates. This program aims to bridge the gap between industrial labor requirements and the availability of qualified workers by providing essential skills and training.
Hashem further elaborated on initiatives like the "Productive Village" to promote rural industrial development and reduce migration by creating local employment opportunities. The ministry's efforts to integrate informal factories into the formal economy and provide comprehensive assistance to distressed factories were also discussed, aiming to ensure the sustainability of domestic production.
