Macao: Egypt’s rising table tennis star Hana Goda was eliminated from the Women’s Singles at the ITTF Men’s and Women’s World Cup Macao 2026, China, following a tough quarterfinal loss on Saturday.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Goda was edged out 3-4 by China’s Sun Yingsha, the world’s top-ranked player, in a closely contested match that highlighted the Egyptian player’s growing presence on the world stage. Despite the loss, Goda delivered a historic performance in the championship, becoming the first Egyptian and African player to reach the quarterfinals of a Table Tennis World Cup.
Her milestone run included a remarkable comeback victory in the Round of 16, where she defeated France’s Jia Nan Yuan 4-3 in a gripping encounter that lasted approximately 75 minutes. The match showcased Goda’s resilience, composure, and competitive spirit.
The tournament, which kicked off on March 30 in Macao, runs till April 5.
