Egypt’s Exports to China Surge by Nearly 200% in First Half of 2026: CAPMAS

Cairo: Egypt's exports to China saw a significant increase of 199.8% year on year, reaching USD 840.8 million in the first half of 2026, up from USD 280.5 million in the same period last year. This information was reported by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Monday, August 31, 2026.According to State Information Service Egypt, Egyptian imports from China also showed growth, increasing by 14.3% to USD 10.4 billion in the first half of 2026, compared to USD 9.1 billion a year earlier. The overall bilateral trade between the two countries expanded by 21.5% to USD 11.3 billion during this period, an increase from USD 9.3 billion in the first half of 2025.The primary commodities exported from Egypt to China in the first half of 2026 included fuels, mineral oils, and distillation products worth USD 494 million. Other significant exports were vegetables and fruit at USD 150.6 million, cotton and vegetable textile fibers at USD 76.4 million, natural calcium phosphates at USD 3 1 million, and organic and inorganic chemicals at USD 21 million.On the import side, Egypt's main commodities from China consisted of electrical and mechanical machinery and equipment with a value of USD 4.1 billion. This was followed by vehicles, tractors, and bicycles at USD 1.2 billion, iron, steel and their products at USD 930.7 million, plastics and related products at USD 524 million, and organic and inorganic chemicals at USD 423.7 million.Additionally, remittances from Egyptians working in China increased to USD 23.3 million in the 2024/25 financial year, a rise from USD 19.5 million in 2023/24. Meanwhile, remittances from Chinese workers in Egypt grew to USD 3.5 million from USD 3.1 million during the same period.CAPMAS also highlighted Egypt's growing population, which reached 109.4 million in August 2026, while China's population remained at 1.4 billion. The number of Egyptians residing in China was estimated to be around 8,000 at the end of 2024, based on estimates from the Egyptian diplomat ic mission.
