Cairo: Egypt's exports of cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose in solid form recorded strong export performance in 2025, according to the Food Export Council (FEC).

According to State Information Service Egypt, The Council said in a statement on Sunday, September 13, 2026, that the value of Egyptian exports of the product reached about dlrs 290 million in 2025, with export volumes of around 581,000 tons. Egypt ranked 14th globally among exporters of the product, accounting for about 2% of global exports.

The continued growth in Egyptian exports was one of the key indicators of the product's performance. Export value recorded a compound annual growth rate of 17% between 2020 and 2025, while export volumes grew at a compound annual rate of 11% over the same period, the statement said.

Regarding the main export markets, the Council said Egypt's exports of the product are concentrated mainly in a number of Arab and African markets, as well as some European markets.

Lebanon was the leading destination for Egyptian exports in 2025, with shipments valued at dlrs 107 million, accounting for 37% of Egypt's total exports of the product, according to the statement.

It was followed by Sudan with dlrs 69 million (24%), Somalia with dlrs 29 million (10%), Yemen with dlrs 20 million (7%) and Italy with dlrs 14 million (5%), it said.

Exports to the five largest markets totaled about dlrs 239 million, representing around 82% of Egypt's total exports of the product in 2025, read the statement.

The Council said the strong growth in export value and volume in recent years reflected the ability of Egyptian products to expand in foreign markets, adding that there were opportunities to further improve performance by diversifying export destinations and gaining access to new international markets, it added.
