Mogadishu:Egyptian Ambassador to Somalia Mohamed Salah welcomed the Egyptian sailors at Mogadishu Airport following their release from captivity. The sailors had been abducted aboard a vessel off the Somali coast in May. This operation was carried out under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and closely monitored by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to ensure their safe return to Egypt.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the sailors were escorted to the Egyptian Embassy under tight security, where accommodations were made for them before their journey back to Cairo. The Egyptian ambassador will accompany them on their return.
The Egyptian Embassy in Mogadishu had been in constant communication with the sailors and their families during their detention. They maintained contact with Somalia's federal government, the Puntland regional government, and the vessel's owners and cargo operators to track developments.
Additionally, the Egyptian Embassy in Yemen engaged with the relevant authorities as directed by the Foreign Minister. The Foreign Ministry's efforts were centered on ensuring the sailors' safety and expediting their release. Ambassador Nader Zaki expressed his congratulations to the sailors' families on their safe return.
