Bamako: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty announced Egypt's commitment to support Mali in achieving security and stability. This commitment was affirmed during Abdelatty's meeting with Malian President Assimi Gota, where he conveyed a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on enhancing bilateral relations.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Egyptian foreign minister highlighted the longstanding ties between Egypt and Mali, noting the importance of furthering cooperation in areas such as education, healthcare, and capacity-building, as well as in countering extremist ideology. Abdelatty's visit to Bamako underscores the historical and deeply-rooted relationship between the two nations.
Abdelatty emphasized the momentum in Egyptian-Malian relations and the need to build upon the outcomes of recent high-level visits. He is leading a delegation of 30 businessmen and representatives from major Egyptian companies to participate in the Egyptian-Malian business forum, indicating Egypt's interest in advancing economic, trade, and investment ties with Mali.
He also highlighted Egypt's role in capacity-building in Mali, with over 100 Malian professionals benefiting from various training courses and programs organized by the Egyptian government. A recent course in Bamako by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) was cited as an example of such efforts.
Discussions between Abdelatty and President Gota also focused on combating extremist ideology, where Abdelatty stressed Al-Azhar's significant contribution through its educational and religious programs in Mali. The leaders exchanged views on regional issues, particularly in the Sahel and Sahara regions, and agreed on the necessity of ongoing coordination and consultation on matters of mutual concern.
President Gota expressed his appreciation for Egypt's support and conveyed his greetings to President Sisi. He acknowledged Egypt's pivotal role in supporting African nations and reiterated Mali's commitment to strengthening its partnership with Egypt in various fields.
